This tour’s objective is to introduce visitors to the urban growth of Brussels and to the current areas of town-planning debate. The commentary will include the creation of the River Senne tunnel, the North-South railway tunnel, the development of the European institutions and the transformation of the district around the Brussels North station. It will look at how decisions made by politicians and town-planners have affected, and continue to affect, the city’s residents.

The tour takes you to some areas whose future is being hotly debated at the moment, for example, the former Federal Civil Service complex, the tower blocks that are being “re-shaped”, the possible venues for European summits and the creeping “colonisation” of districts by organisations linked to the European institutions.
The tour includes visits on foot to some outside sites. |
