This bus tour explores the architecture of the inter-war years (1918-39), generally labelled “Art Deco”.
The building style was influenced by many different factors in these decades of rapid development in many sectors. The tour will take you to the suburbs that were developed in this period, such as Forest, Ixelles and Uccle, who share a rich Art Deco heritage, including many different types of architecture : |
churches, apartment buildings, villas and the “ocean liner” buildings.
As well as some exterior visits on foot, a selection of interiors will also be visited, subject to availability, including Forest Town Hall, the Sacred Heart Basilica at Koekelberg, the former RVS insurance building (now offices for SD Worx) and the Van Buuren Museum, masterpiece of Art Deco (for private group tours only). |
