As well as the unmissable UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Grand’ Place, this tour also includes some lesser-known parts of the historic centre: the Place de la Vieille Halle aux Blés, the Rue des Grands Carmes and the Rue du Marché au Charbon. At each stage, the specific problems linked to the rebuilding of the city after the bombardment by Louis XIV’s artillery in 1695 are discussed, including public spaces, roads, private houses, group accommodation and religious buildings.
