Around Our Lady of Laeken church

Further from the church are some beautiful groups of buildings, such as the former Grenadiers’ barracks, now a European school, and the Florists’ Gardens, which are well worth a visit.

The construction of the Royal Palace and Our Lady’s church made a significant impression on the formerly rural district of Laeken. Our Lady of Laeken church contains the royal family’s burial vault and the cemetery that surrounds it contains the graves and tombs of famous personalities and members of leading Belgian families, many of which feature highly original designs. This small “Belgian Père-Lachaise” contains a copy of Rodin’s “Thinker”. Further from the church are some beautiful groups of buildings, such as the former Grenadiers’ barracks, now a European school, and the Florists’ Gardens, which are well worth a visit.
