The village side of Etterbeek

A former agricultural district whose prosperity owed much to its watercourses, Etterbeek has been able to retain, around Place Jourdan and along Chaussée Saint-Pierre, a village atmosphere.

Squeezed between the Cinquantenaire Park, the EU Institutions and the Barracks district, the historic centre of Etterbeek deserves more of our attention. A former agricultural district whose prosperity owed much to its watercourses, Etterbeek has been able to retain, around Place Jourdan and along Chaussée Saint-Pierre, a village atmosphere. This guided tour is an opportunity to seek out the remains of the now-disappeared “Broebelaer” and to stroll through one of the most charming and “secret” parks in Brussels. As we wander along Chaussée Saint-Pierre, one of the oldest main roads in the district, we will explore several Ancien Regime aristocrats’ houses and Rue Louis Hap will provide an opportunity to improve our knowledge of turn-of-the-century architectural styles.
